Focused Educational Experiences

New Hampshire Dartmouth Family Medicine Residency (NHDFMR) has four unique educational experiences you can choose from throughout your three years of residency, which is an addition to the family medicine curriculum. For any additional questions about these opportunities, please email NHDFPR@crhc.org.

Obstetrics (OB) Track

The Family Centered, Pregnancy Care/OB track is an opportunity for PGY 2 and PGY 3 residents who are interested in obtaining hospital privileges for labor and delivery upon graduation or being considered for a family medicine OB fellowship to gain additional prenatal clinics and procedural skills, with a goal of at least 80 deliveries. Completing this track includes longitudinal activities, extra OB night shifts, and at least one month of intensive inpatient OB experience. Interested residents would apply at the end of PGY 1 and, if accepted, would work with Dr. Angela Yerdon, DO, FM OB, Women’s Health fellowship trained, to complete the track requirements.

Sports Medicine Area of Concentration

The sports medicine area of concentration focuses on developing a greater medical knowledge and understanding of a skill set within musculoskeletal and sports medicine beyond the core competencies required in family medicine residency training. During six weeks of elective time, each resident interested in the sports medicine area of concentration works with Dr. Craig Betchart, MD, FM, a sports medicine fellowship-trained physician, to develop an educational learning plan with specific areas of interest.

Advocacy Area of Concentration

In addition to the longitudinal advocacy curriculum at NHDFMR, we offer a concentration in health advocacy and community leadership. Dr. Alex Brown, PhD, leads this opportunity, which is an individualized approach to coaching and mentorship for PGY 2 and PGY 3 residents during six weeks of elective time, with a particular interest in developing skills in health advocacy.

Osteopathic Recognition

In late January 2024, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) awarded NHDFMR osteopathic recognition. This designation demonstrates the NHDFMR's commitment to teaching Osteopathic Principles and Practices (OPP) in its curriculum. Our Osteopathic Recognition Director, Tamara Shilling, DO, leads this recognition. This training includes using Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT), a hands-on approach to diagnosis and treatment. Any NHDFMR resident, MD, or DO may receive this designation.
