Guided imagery is a program of directed thoughts and suggestions that guide your imagination toward a relaxed, focused state. It's based on the concept that your body and mind are connected. Using all of your senses, your body seems to respond as though what you are imagining is real. You can achieve a relaxed state when you imagine all the details of a safe, comfortable place, such as a beach or a garden. Guided imagery can be used to promote relaxation, manage pain and promote healing.
Research has shown that guided imagery can help reduce blood pressure, strengthen the immune system and lessen pain or anxiety. This technique may be helpful to many who find it difficult to relax or meditate. Complimentary guided imagery appointments are available to cancer patients by appointment.
