A shortage of IV fluids caused by Hurricane Helene is impacting Concord Hospital Health System and hospitals and health systems nationwide.
This shortage is a result of damage to a North Carolina manufacturing facility operated by Baxter International — the world's largest producer and distributor of IV fluids. Baxter is taking steps to restore hospitals’ allocation levels to 100 percent as soon as possible.
In the interim, Concord Hospital Health System has taken measures to conserve IV fluids safely and effectively to ensure optimal patient care. We have also established a central structure to oversee IV fluid inventory and utilization.
The shortage has not impacted our ability to provide medical services to date. However, we are monitoring the situation closely and will communicate any changes.
Our system is well organized and prepared to respond to supply chain disruptions.
Our commitment to quality and safety always guides our decision making, ensuring the best possible care for our patients.
We are grateful for the understanding and patience of our patients as we navigate this situation.
