The Family Place - Maternity
Call (603) 230-7300 to schedule a tour of The Family Place.
Our maternity services are provided at The Family Place — a welcoming atmosphere where expectant moms can share the birthing experience with their loved ones. Women labor, deliver, recover and receive postpartum care in comfortable, private birthing rooms.
Our Team
Obstetricians
Our board-certified obstetricians are trained on and have access to advanced technology to manage both high-risk and normal deliveries.
Nurse Midwives
All our affiliated nurse midwives have been trained in both nursing and midwifery and are certified by the American College of Nurse Midwives. In the event of a complication during childbirth, they can consult with or call upon our board certified obstetricians as necessary.
Registered Nurses
Our registered maternity nurses assist patients with the entire labor and recovery process. They are experienced with high-risk pregnancies and equally skilled at addressing the concerns of first-time mothers. Additionally, they are trained and experienced in supporting mothers through labor and delivery.
Giving Birth at The Family Place
Call (603) 227-7000, ext 3228 for more information.
The Family Place offers a variety of comfort techniques for labor and birth including: relaxation and breathing; showers and whirlpool baths; massage; walking and changing position; birthing balls, sterile water injections for back labor; medications and epidurals.
The birth partner may choose to cut the umbilical cord and is encouraged to give the baby's first bath. This person is also welcome to bring food for nourishment during the stay.
We encourage direct skin-to-skin contact between mother and baby for comfort and temperature control immediately after birth. "Rooming-in" with your new baby is routine at The Family Place.
Cesarean births take place in The Family Place operating suite, so moms can recover in familiar surroundings with their partners and babies close by.
Nursery
Neonatal Care
Our level II nursery is equipped with the latest technology and is staffed by highly skilled neonatal nurses. When babies need special care, they stay in the nursery where quiet muted colors help reduce over stimulation. In the event moms are discharged before their babies can go home, guest rooms are available for parents to stay.
Lactation Services
Breastfeeding
Our certified lactation consultants visit each new mom at The Family Place to discuss feeding method and assist as necessary. In addition to personal help, we offer classes, written information and DVDs on infant feeding. Electric breast pumps are also available to rent or purchase.
"Baby-Friendly" Hospital
We are nationally recognized as a
Baby-Friendly designated facility. Providing optimal level of care for infant feeding and mother baby bonding. Certified lactation consultants are available 7 days a week.
Pacifiers
The Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine, the International Lactation Consultant Association, the United States Breastfeeding Committee and the American Academy of Pediatrics all recommend avoiding pacifiers until breastfeeding is well established. All new parents need to explore their own beliefs and preferences regarding pacifier use for their breastfeeding baby. The Family Place does not routinely provide pacifiers to babies.
Mother and Baby Visits
Our certified lactation consultants are available to provide encouragement and breastfeeding support to new mothers after leaving The Family Place. Moms are encouraged to call (603) 227-7000, ext. 4909 for individual lactation help should they have concerns after returning home.
Baby's First Homecoming Visit
In-Home Nurse Visits
After each baby's birth, we arrange a "Baby's First Homecoming" visit by a Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Association nurse who will examine mom and baby at home and guide them through a comfortable transition after discharge.
Articles for Baby's Comfort and Care
